Re: Confessions of a geek
Wed, January 14, 2004 - 9:16 PMI got drunk before the movie and vomited on my girlfriends' shoes.
actually, that is an enhancement. I did get ferociously drunk before the movie. It was a "guys" night [collitch]--she showed up for the film anyway. I was waaaaay gone. Don't remember anything from the film (did I sit through it?). At some point, I got up and lurched out to go vomit or pee, without saying a word, apparently. becuase she didn't know why I walked off and was...this is the thing that bummed me so much..she was all sad, thinking I was mad. Anyway, she caught up with me, and we sat together in a building lobby (Mary Hall?) for an hour or two, where I'd go "no no, don't cry. I love you! Excuse me, I have to go vomit". Didn't get drunk again for three years.
Oddly enough, our first major bonding experience (?????) was a long phone call. I had eaten a bag of microwave popcorn (had I? did they have microwave popcorn in 1990? at any rate, I had eaten a bunch of popcorn), drunk much of a gallon of white white (what kind? the kind you can buy cheap in gallons) and was wondering what happened to the film "Total Recall" that I was watching for the 2nd time with friends. I was convinved there were large chunks missing. Anyway, we were now on the phone and we talked--or more accurately, I mumbled, until I eventually said "I have to vomit" dropped the phone on the floor and wandered off. To be honest, I don't recall eating the popcorn earlier, but I definitely recall it reappearing.
anyway....
geek moment: I got a copy of "Cadillacs and Dinosaurs" in the mail today on VHS. I never saw it on TV, but it was adapted from the "Xenozoic Tales" comics by Mark Schultz, the husband of a friend of mine. I called him up and asked him to autograph the cassette. He's rather horrified that I watched the thing. Virtually none of his work survived the translation to Saturday morning toy commercials.... -

That is about the funniest thing I've read in a long, long time. Thank you for that. And by the way, don't you just hate when things mysteriously reappear like that?

Re: Confessions of a geek
Fri, February 13, 2004 - 1:09 PMWent to enjoy an Indigo Girls concert years ago, my "friend" was toasted, majorly tripping; attacked my other friend, got kicked out and threw up all over the security guard. Then we lost her in the bathrooms, got a ticket (at our car) and of course missed a great concert. I've haven't gone to one since.

Re: Confessions of a geek
Tue, February 17, 2004 - 1:08 AMI think I can beat all of you. I went to a New Kids on the Block concert. Oh, big deal you say? Ha! I didn't just go to one. No, no my friends. I went to two!!! But wait! It gets even better yet!!! I owned all that NKOTB paraphernailia including (but not limited to): the jackt, the dolls, the sheets, the comforter, the towel, the pajamas, the shoelaces, the earings, some number of t-shirts (don't recall exact number), the posters, the buttons, etc., etc....You get the idea. On top of all that, the walls of my room were literally covered in a fanatical shrine to Donnie Wahlberg.
My only saving grace is that no, I was not one of the screaming, crying, passing-out fans at the concerts. Nevertheless, I think I shall now go hide in shame for some amount of time now. -

Re: Confessions of a geek
Tue, February 17, 2004 - 1:39 AMOh.. but did you have the NKOTB footlocker? It wasn't really a footlocker, kinda of a little cubed half-sized treasure chest pasted all over with their mugshots.
I didn't but my girlfriend in like, 5th grade did. -

Wed, June 2, 2004 - 11:00 PMI used to work at the Wizards of the coast FLAGSHIP game center in seattle. I used to manage it, actually. They had LAN video games, an arcade, total immersion simulator games, and a tournament area for uh...tournaments. I have also worked at a comic book store, taught classes in miniature painting, been the department head of action figures for a toy company, and Ive managed an anime store.
